Digimon Frontier Hybrids and Digivolution

In previous series of Digimon, the Digidestined had Digimon partners who were capable of Digivolving into more powerful forms with the help of a Digivice. Digimon Frontier is unique because the Digidestined actually transform into Digimon themselves. This power is gained from the spirit of a legendary warrior, resulting in a hybrid.

Digimon levels are not used in Digimon Frontier. In previous series a Digimon's strength could easily be gauged by levels such as Champion, Ultimate and Mega.

While these spirits are nowhere near as powerful as the original legendary warriors they are derived from, they are still more powerful than the Digimon that live in the Digital World.

Spirit Evolution (スピリット・エボリューション )

These refer to both human and beast hybrids. A Digidestined can choose to digivolve into a human or beast hybrid through spirit evolution. During combat if a hybrid is defeated his/her fractal code becomes visible along with any inherited spirits. Human and beast hybrids are featured early in the series.

Slide Evolution (スライド・エボリューション )

At any given time a human hybrid can change to their beast hybrid (or vice versa) through Slide Evolution. Featured throughout the series when necessary.

Fusion Evolution aka Double Spirit Evolution ( ダブル・スピリット・エボリューション )

The power of Seraphimon's Digi-egg allowed Takuya and Kouji to combine their human and beast spirits together, forming two new powerful hybrids Ardhamon and Beowulfmon. Their appearance are literally combined into humanoid forms. Unfortunately there wasn't enough energy left to combine the spirits of the other Digidestined. Fusion evolutions for the other hybrids do exist, but are featured only in the Digimon card games.

Unified Spirit Evolution aka Hyper Spirit Evolution
( ハイパー・スピリット・エボリューション )

A unique evolution where Takuya and Kouji combine five spirits each to form the new hybrids KaiserGreymon and MagnaGarurumon. Takuya combines the spirits of Fire, Wind, Ice, Earth, and Wood while Kouji combines the spirits of Light, Thunder, Darkness, Water, and Steel. These evolutions render the other Digidestined unable to digivolve into their human or beast hybrid forms until they release their spirits back to the Digidestined.

Ancient Spirit Evolution (エンシェント・スピリット・エボリューション )

The final and most powerful evolution in the TV Series. With all the Digidestined combining all ten legendary warrior spirits into one, they form the all powerful Susanoomon.
